Service Description
Why did Pacific Islanders leave their islands for the United States? What were the struggles that these first Samoans experienced? This course is an overview of Pacific Islanders migrating to the United States. This course will teach you about the “push factors” that pushed them out of the islands and the “pull factors” for migration. We will discuss where some of these communities have settled in the United States today. Upon completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the different Pacific Island groups that settled in the United States; 2. Discuss the positive and negative benefits of coming to America; 3. Identify and understand brief histories of different Pacific groups and their journeys to the United States. Although Brian is living and serving in Samoa, he is originally from Carson, California. Born and breed and a proud Carson-ian. This course will clarify a lot of misinformation. The more you know, the better!
